The annual AI update for charities and not-for-profits

A free morning in Melbourne, once a year. Where AI has got to, what has changed in the past twelve months, and what it means for the way charities and not-for-profits work.

What it is

Once a year I run a free morning for people who work in charities and not-for-profits. I bring everyone up to speed with what has happened in AI over the past year, and every demonstration is built around the work of the sector: grant applications, supporter and donor communications, program reports, board papers and the admin that sits behind all of it.

The program is set fresh each year, so it covers what has actually changed rather than repeating a fixed syllabus. Demonstrations are live, in ChatGPT and Claude, and what you learn carries to Copilot.

It's my way of giving something back to a sector I do a lot of work with. If you've been thinking about training for your own team, it's also an easy way to see how I teach first.

The details

The 2027 date is yet to be announced. It will be early in the year, on a weekday morning from 8:30am to 12:00pm, at a venue in the Melbourne CBD.

It's free. There are 75 places, with a limit of two people from each organisation so that as many organisations as possible can come. Places are first come, first served.

It's held in Melbourne, and anyone from a charity or not-for-profit who can make the trip is welcome. If you book and then can't make it, let me know so the place can go to someone else.

What you take away

Everyone gets the full presentation afterwards, usually within 24 to 36 hours, and a set of interactive notes built to keep working through with ChatGPT or Claude. People tell me the notes are the bit they keep coming back to.

What participants thought

I thought I had a pretty good understanding of AI. I genuinely didn’t realise the models could do so much. Well worth the day, even if you’re already an experienced user.
Really well organised, from the booking through to the notes afterwards. There was a lot to take in, so having something to refer back to has been useful.
The quality of the venue was outstanding. Comfortable room, great catering and easy to get to. Add Tim’s informative, entertaining style and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day.
