ChatGPT and Claude at work

The core day. For people new to ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot, and for people already using them who want to understand the tools properly: better results, fewer mistakes, knowing when not to trust the answer, and things you can build and use straight away. Live demonstrations on real tasks, not slides.

See dates and book

Most people at work now use AI. Few have had anyone show them how it works, what it is actually doing with their material, or where it quietly goes wrong. They have picked up habits from trial and error, and the habits are mostly fine until the work matters.

This course is that missing grounding. It’s for people new to these tools as well as people who already use them and want to understand them properly, so they can get better results, stay out of trouble, and tell the difference between a good answer and a confident one. You’ll also leave with things to use straight away: a project set up around your work, interactive tools built in plain English, and better ways to research.

Live demonstrations, not slides

Everything is demonstrated live, on real documents and real tasks, so you see the work done in front of you rather than described. It isn’t a lab: you don’t need a laptop or to build along, but you’ll see exactly how the work gets done, at a pace you can follow. Afterwards, the interactive notes take you back through each demonstration step by step, in ChatGPT or Claude, so you can do it yourself on your own work.

Taught across both platforms

Whether you use ChatGPT or Claude, this course is for you. The two platforms now work in much the same way, and almost everything shown applies to both. The day moves between them rather than running every demonstration twice, and the few differences that matter are pointed out along the way.

If your organisation uses Microsoft Copilot, it sits on the same underlying models, so the material applies. The demonstrations aren’t run in the Copilot window, but how the models behave and how to work with them well doesn’t change with the interface.

Program topics

Building with it

Build your own interactive tools

Calculators, checklists and decision aids, built by describing what you need in plain English. No coding involved.

Set up a project that already knows your work

Instructions and documents set up once, so every conversation starts with the right context rather than from scratch.

Research the web properly

Quick searches, deep research and cross-checking, and knowing which one the task calls for.

How these tools work

See what AI can do now

Most people’s sense of AI is a year or more out of date. A look at the gap between what people assume and what current tools deliver.

Understand how AI works

No technical background needed. Just enough to change how you use it and what you expect from it.

Choose the right model and settings

Which model to use, how much thinking to ask for, and how to manage what the tool remembers about you.

Using them well

Get better results and avoid AI slop

Generic output comes from thin context and accepting the first answer. How to give the tool what it needs and keep refining until the work is genuinely yours.

Use AI with confidence, not caution

Where your data goes and where it doesn’t, and why the most common fear is a misconception. Bias in the models and how it shows up. Why AI makes confident errors, and how to check the work that matters. And the reputational cost of generic, unchecked output.

Make it stick across your organisation

Why adoption is uneven across teams, what happens when uptake goes unmanaged, and what closes the gap.

Prerequisites and access

None. You don’t need to have used ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot before. A paid licence (ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot) helps you apply the material afterwards but isn’t needed to attend. Bringing a laptop is optional: this is a demonstration-led session, not a hands-on lab. The program is updated regularly as the tools change.

About this course

This is the course I run most often, and the one I’d send a whole team on first. People come to it at every level of experience, from never having opened ChatGPT to using it daily. Since late 2022 I’ve run about 255 workshops and talks for corporates, SMEs and government departments.

Pair it with the advanced day

This course stands on its own, but it also works as the first half of a two-day sequence with Advanced ChatGPT and Claude at work. This day covers how the tools work, how to use them soundly and the first things worth building: projects, interactive tools and research. The advanced day takes each of those further and adds skills, connectors, scheduled tasks, agents, browser control and design systems. Both are demonstrated the same way.

A 20% discount applies when booking two or more courses, or for two or more people. Many organisations treat the two courses as parts of a single learning program.

FAQ

About the AI courses

Which AI tools do you cover?

Mainly ChatGPT and Claude. The day moves between the two, and most of the methods work the same way in both.

Our organisation uses Microsoft Copilot. Is the course still relevant?

Yes. Copilot is built on the same underlying AI models as ChatGPT and Claude. The demonstrations aren't run in Copilot, but the methods carry over.

Which course should I start with?

If you're new to ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot, or you use them and have never been shown how they actually work, start with ChatGPT and Claude at work. If you already use them most days and want the tools and workflows you're not using yet, go straight to Advanced ChatGPT and Claude at work. Many people do both, and the 20% two-course discount applies. Not sure? The course finder will point you to the right one in two minutes.

What do I take away afterwards?

The full presentation and a set of interactive notes. The notes cover every demonstration from the day, with the prompt behind it ready to copy and step-by-step instructions you can switch between ChatGPT and Claude. They also link to interactive examples I've built. People tell me the notes are the part they keep coming back to. You can see a sample of the notes.

Won't the content be out of date quickly?

The program is updated regularly as the platforms change, so you see the tools as they are now.

Do I need a paid ChatGPT or Claude account?

Not for the course itself. To use much of what's demonstrated afterwards, you'll need a paid plan.

Can I transfer to another date?

Only for medical reasons, affecting you or a dependant, and with at least 24 hours' notice before the course starts. You can transfer once, to the same course, within 3 months of the original date. A transferred booking can't be refunded or passed to someone else.

Can I send someone else in my place?

Yes. Email me their name and contact details at least 24 hours before the course starts. This isn't available if you've already transferred the booking.

Where are the full booking terms?

Course suitability

Are net101 courses any good?

Yes. I would say that, of course, so here's what it rests on. I've run about 255 workshops and talks since late 2022, and Vistage named me Speaker of the Year in 2024. Everything is demonstrated live on real documents, including where the tools fall short. And you leave with the full presentation and a set of interactive notes to keep working through with ChatGPT or Claude. People tell me the notes are the bit they keep coming back to.

Who attends net101 courses?

Managers, professionals and business owners who want to use AI properly in their everyday work, from occasional users to people who use it daily.

Is net101 a registered training organisation (RTO)?

No. net101 courses are professional development, not nationally recognised qualifications.

Can you run a workshop for our team?

Yes. Half-day or full-day, onsite or virtual, and built around your organisation's own documents and work. See Team learning.

Face-to-face courses

Where are courses held?

In professional corporate training venues around Australia. The venue for each course is on its course page.

What time does the course run?

Courses usually run from 9:00am to 4:30pm. Check the course page for the exact times.

Is lunch provided? What about dietary requirements?

Yes. Tea and coffee are provided, and lunch is covered. Depending on the venue, lunch is ordered in, or I book a table at a nearby restaurant so everyone has lunch together, or you're given an allowance to buy your own nearby, so you can choose something that suits you.

Do I need to bring a laptop?

No. The day is live demonstrations, not a hands-on lab. You're welcome to bring a laptop or other device to use in the background. There's wifi, but I can't guarantee access to a power point, so come charged or bring your cord.

What should I wear?

Whatever you'd wear to the office. Training rooms can run cold, so bring a layer.

Want this course delivered to your team?

Half day or full day, at your office or by livestream, built around your organisation's own documents.

What participants thought

Really well organised, from the booking through to the notes afterwards. There was a lot to take in, so having something to refer back to has been useful.
The biggest takeaway for me was watching Tim improve an answer by asking follow-up questions. I’d been giving up when the first result wasn’t right. Such a simple change, but it’s already made a difference.
I thought I had a pretty good understanding of AI. I genuinely didn’t realise the models could do so much. Well worth the day, even if you’re already an experienced user.
