AI for high school students
You've probably already used ChatGPT to help with an assignment. Maybe you got a decent result. Maybe you got something that sounded right but was completely wrong. Either way, there's a lot more these tools can do — and a lot more you need to understand about how they actually work.
This workshop is hands-on. You'll build things, break things and walk out with a much sharper understanding of what AI tools can do for your learning — and where they'll let you down if you're not paying attention.
No lectures. No slides about the future. Just you, the tools and real projects.
What you'll actually do
The workshop is built around three streams. You'll work across all of them.
Build projects with AI You'll use tools like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini to build things that are actually useful — your own AI tutor that explains topics the way you need them explained, study tools tailored to your subjects, revision quizzes, flashcard generators, essay planners and more. The goal isn't to watch a demo. It's to build something you'll keep using after you leave.
Video coding and interactive explainers Some ideas are hard to understand from a textbook. In this stream, you'll use AI to create interactive widgets and visual explainers that make concepts click — things that move, respond and show you how something works rather than just telling you. Particularly useful for maths, science and any subject where seeing the idea in action makes it stick.
NotebookLM for study, research and exam prep NotebookLM works differently to the other tools — you feed it your own sources and it works from those, not from the internet. In this stream, you'll learn how to load your notes, textbooks and class materials and turn them into summaries, study guides, audio overviews you can listen to on the bus, practice questions and revision plans. It's especially powerful for pulling a semester's worth of content together and making sense of it before exams.
What you'll walk out with
- Projects you've built yourself — AI tutors, study tools, interactive explainers — that you can keep using
- A practical understanding of how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and NotebookLM actually work and where they get things wrong
- Smarter ways to study, revise and prepare for exams using AI tools
- The ability to tell the difference between AI output that's useful and AI output that's confidently wrong
- Skills most adults in your life don't have yet
Why this isn't just another AI talk
You won't sit and listen to someone explain AI. You'll use it, push it, watch it fail and learn how to get better results than most people know how to get. The whole workshop is live and hands-on.
