AI is now appearing across many workplaces, but for most people it is still only partly understood: used in limited ways, discussed in broad terms and often lacking clear practical context. The challenge is no longer access. It is understanding what AI actually does, where it helps, where it falls short and how to use it responsibly at work.
This program gives participants a practical foundation for using AI with more clarity, judgement and confidence in day-to-day work. It is built around live demonstrations, real tasks and real outputs rather than slides and theory, helping people see what these tools can actually do and where they are most useful in practice.
This is Tim Martin’s flagship foundational offering and the most widely delivered workshop in his practice. Delivered in more than 220 sessions over the past three years to corporates, SMEs and government departments, it remains the most requested program because it provides a clear, practical grounding in AI and a strong pathway into more advanced or specialised adoption.
Pair this with an advanced course
This course can be taken as a standalone program, but it also works well alongside Advanced ChatGPT at Work or Advanced Claude at Work as part of a two-course sequence. Those advanced courses build on the foundations covered here and take participants further into more capable, professional use.
When both courses are booked, a 20% discount applies to each course. Many organisations treat the two courses as parts of a single learning program.
Prerequisites and access requirements
There are no formal prerequisites, but participants will need a paid AI licence to get full value from the session. The course is taught primarily through ChatGPT, but the principles apply broadly across other leading AI tools including Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. The differences are more about interface than approach.
Bringing a laptop or device is optional. Participants are welcome to explore parts of the session on their own machine, but the course is not designed as a hands-on lab or built around live follow-along participation.
The program is updated over time to reflect changes in practice, keeping the content current and relevant.
Program topics
Built around live demos, not slides A practical, demonstration-led session built around real tools, real tasks and real outputs. You'll see features like memory, projects and concepts like vibe coding explored live — giving you a real sense of what's possible, even at a foundational level.
How AI works in practice You don't need to be technical. But understanding what's happening under the hood changes how you use it — and what you expect from it.
Getting better results: context, iteration and refinement Most people write one prompt and accept whatever comes back. This is how you stop doing that.
Confidence, judgement and knowing when not to trust the output AI can sound confident and still be wrong. How to spot it, and how to stay in the driver's seat.
Safe use, policy and the real risks of getting it wrong What can be shared, what shouldn't be, and the standards that guide responsible use — plus the risks most teams aren't thinking about yet, from inaccuracy and bias to legal exposure and reputational damage.
Checking the work: validation and decision risk How to verify AI output and manage risk when the work matters.
Brand, quality and reputation in an AI-assisted world If everything sounds like AI wrote it, that's a brand problem. How to keep standards high when the tools make mediocre easy.
What AI adoption looks like inside organisations How adoption varies across teams, why gaps emerge, and what unmanaged uptake looks like.
